Rust isn’t just an unattractive eyesore on your business… it could also cost you a lot more. R & R Chicago rust removal services can make this process as painless as possible.
Rust is a huge pain. Not only is it unattractive but it can also cause damage and injury. So what do we do? Mix lemons, vinegar, and baking soda?
For a small stain at home that might work but for a business with a large blemish on your storefront or beer garden, that just won’t work. It will take longer, cost more, and generally create more of a headache than it is worth.
But what is rust anyway? Most of us consider rust as a red-brown flaking paint on metal or stains on concrete and think nothing more of it. Rust, however, is the common term used for the corrosion and oxidation of metal such as steel. It occurs when iron reacts with oxygen and water – a process known as oxidation. If a piece of iron is left long enough, with exposure to water and oxygen, its rusting is inevitable – it could take days, weeks, months, or even years depending of the intensity of its exposure, however it will rust if it is not protected in any way.
There are in fact three different types of rust:
• Pitting or cavity corrosion is a type of oxidation that occurs on unprotected steels used in infrastructure. The resulting pits can rapidly reduce the strength and thickness of a piece of metal; think like a metal staircase in a Chicago apartment building – one person moving furniture over a weak infrastructure can cause a massive problem.
• Contact corrosion, similar to the common cold, occurs when a non-rusting stainless steel is in contact with another piece of metal that is rusting. It causes iron oxide deposits at the point of contact and can continue to spread from there.
• Runoff Rust: Oxide deposits run down a building or metal structure by means of water and then sits in porous concrete, brick and other masonry. This is often what you see as “tiger streaking”.
Some are more common than others, but all can be prevented with the correct rust prevention or corrosion treatment methods. So what can you do? Well that’s easy. R&R Chicago has trained specialists handled to chemically remove rust without damaging your property, killing plants and other greenery, or harming employees or guests. Questions & Answers
Q: How do I prevent rust from forming?
A: Outdoor metal furniture will eventually leave rust spots on your exterior hardscapes. Placing your grills and furniture on pads is one great option. What we see the most is runoff from metal window frames or other infrastructure running down the building. One way to remedy this is to find the source of the problem and either filter it or seal your building.
Q: How much does it cost to remove rust?
A: This price varies greatly based on where the rust is, how long it has been there, and other factors. We can get you all these answers by setting up an appointment for a free consultation. Get your estimate here.
Q: How long does it take to remove rust?
A: This also varies but for small staining, with proper equipment, and trained technicians…an hour tops. For larger scale rusting, this begins to add up quickly.
